Frequently Asked Questions

Run curl https://get.armoredgate.com/volt | sh to install the Volt binary. Then run volt init to register and activate your node. See the Get Started guide for details.

Community tier includes up to 3 nodes with 50 containers per node, the full Volt CLI, container runtime, CAS storage, and community support via Discord. It's free forever — no credit card required.

Run volt upgrade or visit the Pricing page to select a plan. You can also upgrade from within Volt Studio under Settings → Subscription.

Yes. Volt works fully offline for local container management. Registration and heartbeats require connectivity, but there's a 7-day grace period. Running containers are never interrupted.

Volt runs on any Linux distribution with a kernel ≥ 5.10 and systemd. This includes Ubuntu 22.04+, Debian 12+, Fedora 38+, Rocky 9+, Alma 9+, and Arch Linux. ARM64 and AMD64 architectures are both supported.

Absolutely — that's the point. Volt uses systemd-nspawn as its container runtime and Stellarium for content-addressed storage. No Docker daemon, no Docker socket, no Docker dependencies. Volt converts OCI images from Docker Hub and other registries into its native format automatically.
